Why I’m getting rid of my minds.com account, but before I go..
When this social network came out, I was enthusiastic about it. I’ve tried to refer some of my friends over to sorta wean out Facebook but that never panned out too well. Oh well, I’ll just use it and forget em. I liked the idea of not being blocked or banned from saying or posting whatever was on my mind and having the “NSFW” button in case you had something a little NSFW to express was a good selling point for me. I’m not into porn, I’m more into the naked female body as art form so I only posted on minds what I considered art. I’m up in the air on pornography on a few fronts. There are certain poses I won’t post due to way too much exposed or the pose is just not very “artful” or expressive. Just my cup of tea and may not be yours and that’s fine.
However, my argument with minds is on several fronts:
- While I love the “Jury” feel of a decision, a decision made upon peers is very good, however I really don’t think the “Jury” actually comprehends what they are viewing. There will be problems with the jury selection and ultimately, a human at minds needs to have the final say based off the jury. However, there will still be holes.
- The support system is slow. And I mean VERY slow if it even works at all. If you put in a ticket, be prepared for it to go unanswered. I’ve had a ticket open for about a year. This tells me one thing, the support system doesn’t matter, it is just there as a front to make you think they care. In other words, don’t rely on the support system. If you’ve had good luck with their support system, I think that’s great but I don’t think it’s consistent.
- If you do post NSFW content sometimes, be prepared to get a bunch of strikes. Even if you tag the post “NSFW”, when you post it, the “E” tag won’t be there triggering the strike. This, I believe, is where the problem arises. The UI, Desktop and App, is flawed. Try it out. Make a post, tag it NSFW and publish it. Then, refresh the main screen and the NSFW tag is still on. Make another post and be sure to turn it off. Publish and refresh the screen. Refresh your screen and see the magic.
The only thing I can tell you is if you post NSFW very rarely and tag your posts correctly.. the system will not register them the way you intend so double check.. Regardless if you double check or not.. in their system, it won’t be marked NSFW and you need to be prepared to get some strikes on you. If you post NSFW content all the time or more than normal, you probably won’t see these strikes against you as your channel is marked NSFW all the time, which is fine but I don’t post NSFW material all the time. I still want a public audience, but i’d like for the NSFW tag to work appropriately and when I want to tag something NSFW. I don’t want to have an account that is NSFW only, that’s not the purpose of my account. I don’t want to post pornography all the time, just when I find something artful
So any Minds employees reading this, if any. Fix the Desktop and App UI to make sure the NSFW tag sticks on a post if it is indeed enabled. This, I believe, has been the crux of my problem from the start. I’m now cautious about posting anything NSFW because of this and if the system is not working as intended and the support system isn’t answering my Email, well then, you are a failed system and it’s time to get rid of you.
So I do a little googling and find that this is not just an uncommon, rare problem: https://themccarthychronicles.wordpress.com/2017/09/06/minds-com-no-different-than-the-rest/

Hey Chris,
Appreciate your decision entirely but just wanted you to know:
1. Admins are involved in the Jury process, an admin decides what goes to a Jury and what not potentially warranting of a strike.
2. We try our best, but I’m incredibly sorry your issues fell between the cracks. Entirely understand how this has turned you away from the platform.
3. There is an overhaul that fixes this, nearly ready to go: https://gitlab.com/minds/engine/merge_requests/384
It has been an issue once in the past for a brief time, and then became an issue again recently. The admin team are aware of it and as far as I’m aware, are checking to see whether this is the case manually on NSFW reports.
Thank you Ben. I wasn’t aware of the Github for this. I’ve had about 3 or 4 times where this has happened but the last one I honestly double checked and made sure that my post was marked NSFW, but this time, I appealed and the strike stuck with absolutely no reason why the appeal was denied. I’m sure minds has some growing pains and i’ve been a systems engineer for many years and I understand problems but this one really irked me to my core and it’s not that i’m choosing one social media system over another, i’m just really fed up with social media altogether. It seems to me that all of them are the same, however, Minds is the most consistent.
