Jellyfin server on Arch Linux LTS with Pascal GPU

A few months ago, they made a lot of changes to nvidia GPUs, namely dropping Pascal support for the new driver. Here are the steps I took to get Jellyfin working, also with a tunarr server.

Of course a fresh load, and boot into linux-lts. I had better luck with LTS kernel than shipped.

1
2
3
4
/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-nouveau.conf

blacklist nouveau
options nouveau modeset=0

Installing files we will need later:

As Root:
pacman -S –needed git base-devel dkms linux-headers linux-lts-headers nvtop

As User:
git clone https://aur.archlinux.org/yay.git && cd yay && makepkg -si
yay -Syu
yay -S nvidia-580xx-dkms

As Root
nano /etc/mkinitcpio.conf

remove “kms” from the hooks section
reboot

When you come back, type ‘nvtop’ to see if drivers are locked in, if not, do not proceed til 580 drivers are loaded

lspci -k

Check to see kernel driver for nvidia card says “nvidia”

If it does, Proceed

pacman -U https://archive.archlinux.org/packages/l/libjxl/libjxl-0.11.2-2-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst
pacman -Ud https://archive.archlinux.org/packages/x/x265/x265-4.2-2-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst
pacman -U https://archive.archlinux.org/packages/f/ffmpeg/ffmpeg-2%3A8.1.2-5-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst

nano /etc/pacman.conf
Edit Ignore Package Line:

IgnorePkg = libbluray x265 ffmpeg

Now Install Jellyfin and Tunarr if you want
pacman -Sd jellyfin-server jellyfin-web
systemctl enable –now jellyfin

As User:

yay -S tunarr-bin

As Root:

whereis jellyfin.env

Edit Jellyfin.env file and make sure it points to the system FFMPEG and not jellyfin-ffmpeg
Also, within Tunarr, make sure it’s using system FFMPEG
